Veterans’ Services

Veterans’ Services

CD1 is home to more than 50,000 veterans of our armed forces.  Problems with veterans’ services are deeply felt in CD1.  Our veterans must be protected from misguided efforts to privatize the Veterans Administration.

Health Care Access and Cost

Health Care Access and Cost

CD1’s population is older, with about 16% of the population qualifying for Medicare, and another 15% within 10 years of qualifying.  LaMalfa voted for GOP efforts to cut Medicare spending over 10 years that will hurt many CD1 residents. LaMalfa also voted against legislation to cut prescription drug prices for everyone.

Good Paying Jobs

Good Paying Jobs

CD1 has a higher poverty rate than the state as a whole.  About 16% of the children in CD1 live in poverty.  Instead of taking bold steps to help these children, LaMalfa has voted to cut food stamps.

CD1 has a higher poverty rate than the state as a whole.  About 23% of the children in CD1 live in poverty.  Instead of taking bold steps to help these children, LaMalfa has voted to cut food stamps.

Rural Broadband

Rural Broadband

The giant telecom companies have not wired rural areas for high speed broadband, forcing many CD1 residents into the choice of paying exorbitant amounts for slow satellite access or not getting internet access at all.  Internet access is essential to the development of rural economies.  LaMalfa has done nothing about the foot-dragging by telecom companies.

Forest Health and Fire Prevention

Home to the Carr and Camp Fires, CD1 is ground zero for the intensifying effects climate change. Yet we are represented in Congress by LaMalfa, who ignores climate science. We need a scientifically sound, collaborative solution to restoring forest health and minimizing fire risk.
