LaMalfa has voted repeatedly to make his religious views the law of the land and to deny women reproductive liberty.
As a Congressman, LaMalfa has aggressively sought to curtail the individual liberty of women with respect to child-bearing. And, in his time in the California Legislature before he went to Congress, LaMalfa sought to block distribution of contraceptives and against expanding programs for pregnant teens.
LaMalfa has voted five times to restrict abortions after 20 weeks, twice on bills he co-sponsored.
LaMalfa has voted multiple times in multiple ways to defund Planned Parenthood, and has voted to permanently bar the use of federal funds for abortions.
In January, 2020, LaMalfa co-signed a brief filed with the Supreme Court of the United States, urging the Court to overturn Roe v. Wade.
In April, 2017, LaMalfa met with the federal Health and Human Services Secretary in an effort to persuade the federal government to interfere with California’s state law requirement that health insurance providers offer abortion coverage.
In September, 2015, LaMalfa voted to permit states to exclude from Medicaid coverage providers who perform abortions.
As a state senator, LaMalfa voted against expansion of a program to provide assistance to pregnant teenagers, and voted against a bill authorizing registered nurses to dispense contraceptives.
LaMalfa does not support a woman’s right to choose – he insists on imposing his choice on all women.
